Snetterton Race Report – October ’14

It was the last Tin Tops race of the season and after all that happened at Oulton Park, we were hoping for a hassle free event this time round. After a bit of rain overnight, the track was still damp as we approached the start of qualifying.

Ryan was first out on track and he began to lap as quick as anyone else out there, after a few laps, we were sitting 3rd overall. Another few laps went by and we notice that Ryan had not come back round! He had gone off line in to the chicane and ditched the car against the barrier. As the track dried out, the times tumbled and the time he had set early on was only good enough for 18th overall.

Once the session had finished, the car was towed back to the pits and we found that the only real damage was the bumper. A quick turn around by the team and the car was ready for Rob to head out in another session (a requirement by the club for each driver to complete 3 laps). The car was running well and we were ready for the race.

The race was soon upon us and we had decided to put Ryan in the seat first. He got off to a good start and made his way nicely through the field. As we took our mandatory pit stop, we sat in 12th place. The pit stop itself was the best one we’d done all year and the fastest recorded on the day! Somehow, we found ourselves in 5th place overall with a few faster cars now behind us and catching.

Rob lapped consistently for many laps, although he did has a small off track excursion where he managed to take out 8 small bollards. Fortunately, this didn’t cost us much time and we eventually brought the car over the line in 7th overall, 1st in Class B.
